Malaysia has fastest mobile network in South East Asia

Malaysia has faster and more stable mobile networks than Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, according to a mobile measurement company Tutela.

According to the report, Malaysia has the highest average download speeds, including 3G and 4G, with a speed of 11.1 Mbit / s, while its figure decreased by 4.3 Mbit / s from U Mobile compared to 14.8 Mbit / s in Celcom, 13.3 Mbps Maxis and 9.6 Mbps DiGi.

Indonesia had the second average speed of 8.3 Mbit / s; Philippines third, with a speed of 8.1 Mbit / s; and Thailand is the slowest, at 6 Mbps.

To ensure consistency, Tutela verified how often mobile networks reach benchmarks of 4 Mbps and 2 Mbps at 0% packet loss and delays of less than 50 milliseconds.

Malaysia is again in first place with 56.9% of the connections that meet these needs. Thailand followed it - 45.3%; Indonesia, by 40.1 percent; and in the Philippines - 33.3%.

Maxis ranked first among Malaysian operators with 68.9 percent in the Excellent category; Celcom ranks second with 61.6%; Third place in DiGi - 57.5%; and U Mobile is fourth, with 33 percent.

"Malaysia has the best stable quality in any country, and the Maxis index, equivalent to 69%, is the best among all operators in the region," the report says.

In Indonesia, Telkomsel ranked first with a quality score of 57.8%; then XL with 45.9%; Indosat Ooredoo, from 35.3 percent; 3, with 34.4 percent; and Smartfren, from 32.6 percent.

"Telkomsel in Indonesia is investing heavily in 4G infrastructure, and the results are evident: its users had the best coverage, speed of download and constant quality in the country," the report says.

The Philippine telecommunications company Smart showed a constant quality score of 48.8%, and Globe - 23.8%.

In Thailand, TrueMove received a consistency assessment of 49.3% through its investment in the 4G spectrum; DTAC won 45.6%; To see 45 percent, and AIS saw 40.1 percent.

"In a region where 90 percent of Internet access is through a smartphone, wireless operators are under pressure to ensure a higher level of performance," said Tutela vice president Tom Luke.

"We were able to analyze the quality of mobile communications throughout the region, from large cities to small towns, to obtain a real and balanced image of the experience that mobile users receive."

More than 85 billion measurements of mobile networks were used for the report from December 1, 2018, to January 9, 2019 on 10 million mobile devices, and the Tutela software to test the quality of the network works against more than 3000 third-party applications.

According to Tutela, its results are different from other network measurement companies because it measures typical usage, instead of measuring maximum performance under ideal conditions.

"We used a 2 MB file for the boot tests and a 1 MB file for the test downloads. "Tutela uses software installed in more than 3,000 associated applications to perform frequent and light tests of around 2 MB," he explained.
