LG G8 will bring revolutionary technology in the front camera

LG began mass production Time of Flight modules for smartphones. These new sensors will be implemented in the future flagship LG G8 ThinQ.

Even today we know what the average range of the Korean company will look like. However, the eyes are facing the top of the range, which simply has to be good.

Otherwise, LG runs the risk of falling into obscurity once and for all. These "flight time" sensors can help prevent this from happening

Time of Flight technology measures the distance between the sensor and the object

Firstly, these new modules will be located in the front camera. LG has decided to put it ahead because it believes that its potential for facial unlocking is huge because of 3D sensors.

In addition, LG has emphasized 3D technologies, highlighting the potential of modules for motion sensors and applications in virtual or augmented reality.

Subsequently, the company also intends to implement aerial gestures on the smartphone interface. Due to the advanced 3D sensor, these modules can easily identify gestures, which can give way to quick functions. If the user has limited access to hands, it is also beneficial.

The truth is that we have had these experimental gestures in the past but they did not go well at all. I believe that with this technology, this implementation makes more sense.

Time of Flight technology calculates the distance between the subject and the camera sensor based on the speed of light. Its use in smartphones will be something completely new.

The truth is that this can be a big bet or a "shot in the foot". LG is quite confident that this is the trump card that will highlight their smartphones again. Hopefully so because the market is already getting too tight for companies that do not innovate.
