Huawei posts record revenue of $ 52 billion in 2018

The Huawei is flying low! The Chinese smartphone maker said on Thursday it had hit a $ 52 billion mark in sales in 2018. The number is a record for the company and was only obtained from end-consumer device sales.

The figure is about 50% higher than the segment's revenue in 2017, making it Huawei's main business, taking over the infrastructure business (such as cellular network antennas) and the corporate public. Overall, the company recorded a growth of 21% in revenues for 2018, when it earned the US $109 billion.

The news comes at a critical time for the company based in Shenzhen, China. Since taking over the presidency of the United States, Donald Trump has accused Huawei of using his products to spy on behalf of the Chinese government. Due to accusations by the US president, the Chinese company has been the subject of federal investigations and has even been barred from acting in some countries. In the political sphere, the company's image is so compromised that even its chief financial officer was arrested at the request of the United States.

In the face of all this, seeing revenues from smartphones and other end-consumer devices go so well and sustain the company's growth can be seen as a real relief. According to Richard Yu, director of the consumer division, this was possible thanks to the high demand for the high-end appliances of the brand. Huawei is currently the world's largest smartphone maker and has increasingly betting on its own components, such as chipsets and servers, to reduce dependence on companies such as Qualcomm and Intel.
