How to fix Face ID problems on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR

Love or hate Face ID, but this technology cannot be ignored. It was first introduced along with the iPhone X in 2017, and now the Face ID is the only biometric authentication method on the 2018 iPhone and iPad Pro lines. The fingerprint scanner took several years to develop, and the Face ID technology was only a year old, so it is far from perfect.

In this article, we will help you solve some common Face ID problems that may occur on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and iPad Pro2018.

Customize the second face

Despite Apple’s claims, Face ID technology is not as good as Touch ID. It is more convenient but often does not work.

If your Face ID doesn’t work well, try setting it up again, but do it in a bright room. Also, don't forget to take off your glasses. You can also set up a second face for Face ID, and this time do not take off your glasses /cap/makeup so that the technology works better.

To set up Face ID again or add a second face, go to Settings -> Face ID and passcode.

Turn off attention detection

To unlock a smartphone using Face ID, you need to look at it. If your view is not aimed at a smartphone, it will not be unlocked. This feature is often inconvenient and increases unlock time. Fortunately, you can disable the "Require Attention for Face ID" feature in Settings -> Face ID and passcode.

Update iOS

This is an obvious point. If you have not done so yet, upgrade your iPhone or iPad Pro to the latest available version of iOS 12. Apple is constantly working to improve the Face ID technology by updating the system. The latest version of iOS can solve your Face ID problem.

If you have an iPhone X with iOS 11, be sure to upgrade to iOS 12, because in this version, the Face ID technology has been improved.

Reset your iPhone

If the Face ID still works poorly, try resetting your device and setting it up again. This is not an ideal solution, but it will fix your problem if it is related to system settings. We strongly recommend not to recover from a copy, but to configure the device again.

Before resetting, you can disable and re-enable Face ID on your iPhone XS or iPhone XR.

Problems with the details

If the Face ID does not work at all, it may be due to problems with the details. The sensors that Face ID uses are quite delicate and often stop working after being hit. Your iPhone may have remained whole outside, but some parts stopped working.

If the Face ID is malfunctioning or does not work at all, it is worth contacting a specialist.
