Exynos 9820 will feature 8 cores, 5G and 8K video recording

The Samsung Galaxy S10 family of smartphones will be presented to the public as early as February 20th! And as usual, the company will equip their devices with Snapdragon and Exynos SoCs, depending on the market.

Portugal we will receive the version with Exynos 9820, while Brazil will receive the version with Snapdragon 855

Having said that, given the great focus on Artificial Intelligence in the industry, it will be important to realize how Samsung's solution will work out in comparison. After all, the two versions have to have, necessarily, very similar levels of performance.

And Qualcomm promises immensely in this field, with Snapdragon 855.

The Samsung Exynos 9820 features a 2x2x4 (8 cores) design as well as an NPU capable of delivering 7x the performance of the previous Exynos 9810

Probably sick of hearing about NPUs, from Apple, Huawei, and even more recently from Qualcomm.

Which even makes sense since these companies have invested a lot in technology! And it should be noted that the Apple A12 already has an NPU capable of 5 trillion operations per second. In parallel, the Snapdragon 855 will be capable of 7 'trillion' operations per second.

Just like Qualcomm, Samsung has also changed its design a bit.

While the Exynos 9810 had a big.LITTLE configuration, with Samsung M3 cores and ARM Cortx A55 ... The Exynos 9820 changes this scheme to a 2 + 2 + 4 configuration. What in the background, we mean that we will rely on two Samsung Mongoose cores, two ARM Cortex A75 cores and finally four ARM Cortex A55 cores.

Samsung promises a 20% increase in single-core performance, as well as a 15% increase in multi-core performance. In addition, the processor is still capable of being 40% more efficient than its predecessor, but it all depends on the implementation of the task manager.

Samsung says Exynos 9820 NPU will be able to offer 7x more operations per second than its predecessor!

As you may have guessed, NPU is really a very important factor in modern processors. Incidentally, it is likely to become increasingly important, as software evolves taking this into account, and the hardware becomes increasingly powerful and efficient.

So, now that Samsung has also entered this boat, it seems to be quite confident ... Asserting that the new Exynos 9820 is capable of offering 7x more TOPS than the Exynos 9810!

However, there is a problem with this statement ... We do not have the slightest idea of what the performance of the Exynos 9810 in this field is ... And Samsung also does not seem to want to advertise it

Forgetting this for now, the Exynos 9820 NPU will also help in the field of photography, as well as what the Kirin 980 already does, and the Snapdragon 855 will do as soon as it officially arrives on the market.

SoC will not only aid in the recognition of scenarios, but will also enable Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality much more powerful.

In addition to the new NPU, the Exynos 9820 will also bring up the table, a new GPU, in the form of the ARM Mali G76 MP12. That Samsung claims to be capable of a performance increase in the order of 40%, and is still capable of an efficiency increase in the order of 35%.

With all this graphics power, SoC can support HDR10 + on an external monitor, and still the 4K UHD resolution on the smartphone screen.

The Exynos 9820 is capable of supporting 5 cameras as well as 8K video!

The Samsung Exynos 9820 will also be able to record videos at 8K30FPS. Courtesy of MFC, which is also able to render 10-bit color, allowing for more detailed and realistic results.

Unfortunately, given the fact that the Exynos 9820 'only' supports 5 cameras ... It seems that such a version 'Galaxy S10 Super Top Range' with 6 cameras is off the table!

The new SoC will still be able to offer download speeds of 2.0Gbps

This new chipset will be able to support LTE Category 20 as well as 4 × 4 MIMO, eLADD, and 256-QAM.

But does it support the next generation 5G networks?

Apparently not directly ... But like the Snapdragon 855, it supports the installation of the Exynos Modem 5100 modem, it also produced with the FinnF 10nm manufacturing process.
