"Distinguished Competition" (or "Distinguished Competition") was Lee's way of referring to DC in his correspondences and anecdotes printed on Marvel's older comics. "Excelsior" is the brand created and eternalized by him and can be found today in virtually all the media of the publishing house that has used it for decades.
Stan Lee died on November 12, 2018, at age 95, for reasons of cardiac arrest and pulmonary bankruptcy. He joined Marvel in 1939, then 17 years old. At the time, the company was still called "Timely Comics". During his long years of publishing, Lee, along with other writers (especially Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko), was the co-creator responsible for bringing to the world world-famous heroes such as Spider-Man, X-Men, Man Iron, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Daredevil, Strange Doctor, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, among others.
The writer had retired from his daily Marvel activities in the 1990s, but remained active in the company's work in other media (which he himself helped to develop), especially his momentary appearances in all the films starring the heroes he created. At the beginning of Avengers: The Age of Ultron, he appears drunk after sharing a drink with Thor (lived by Chris Hemsworth) and stammering his "Excelsior" staff.
