CES 2019 | Sony announces 8-inch TVs with 85 and 98 inches

Sony 's Master Series TV family has been gaining new members since it was first launched last year in New York. The new members are the 8K LCD TVs Z9G and the A9G 4K OLEDs announced during CES 2019. And while the A9G will be available in standard sizes of 55, 65 and 77 inches, the Z9G will be literally giant with options of 85 and 98 inches.

Both have the same Picture Processor X1 Ultimate, just like the previous TVs on the Master Series TV. Sony also revealed that it has a "special algorithm specially developed for 8K that can intelligently detect and analyze every object in the image, resulting in exceptional detail and contrast for a more realistic image that represents the intent of the creators." It is worth remembering that the Z9G is also the first 8K TV from Sony.

As per table, new technologies dedicated to the 8K were used in the Z9G TV series, with Blacklight Master Drive one of them, offering effects like full-array local dimming and X-Tended Dynamic Range PRO that uses energy savings to intelligently areas requiring reinforcement; plus ultra-thin LED modules that are independently controlled, increasing the contrast is greater and the shades black.

Content in 4K has also received algorithms that improve its image, leaving it closer to 8K when using a database to improve the accuracy of upscaling. However, because the Z9G is LCD, the sound system is not as impressive as the OLED TVs, which have several drivers below the display to make it look like the audio is coming out of the screen.

To try to simulate this effect, Sony built four front speakers, two on the bottom and two on the top, calibrated to produce the same effect of the Acoustic Surface Audio + technology of the OLED TVs. And, if you have a home stereo system, just set the TV using the new Z9G central audio mode.

On the other hand, OLED TVs offer a higher-quality image with perfect black tones, contrast and super-wide viewing angles, something the LCD still cannot match. In addition, Sony said it designed the A9G series so that it looks "floating on the wall", which means the company has bet heavily online design as well.

Both the Z9G and A9G have Netflix, IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Vision / Atmos calibration mode. Of course, both new TV series continue to run Android TV - even though OLED does not perform as well when it comes to software. However, new Sony TVs should receive Android Oreo, which may mean improvements in navigation and menus. As for the values? The company has yet to announce the final prices or details of new Master Series members' releases.
