Baby found dead in Amazon filing bathroom in US

A newborn was found dead inside an Amazon warehouse in the city of Phoenix, in the United States. The case came on Wednesday night when police were contacted after the baby was seen unresponsive inside the garbage can from one of the facility's restrooms.

The paramedics arrived around 8:30 pm local time but were not able to resuscitate the child, who was pronounced dead on the scene. The case was then transferred to the police who are investigating and said they still have not found those responsible for the newborn. Few details on the progress of the work were revealed.

Jobs at the distribution center, one of Amazon's top sites in the US, were not interrupted after the appalling discovery, but e-commerce said it was working with authorities to investigate the case. In a statement, the company said the well-being of its employees and family is a priority and categorized the incident as "sad and tragic."

The news raised comments on working conditions at Amazon distribution units in the United States and around the world. According to a study by the British organization Freedom of Information, more than 600 ambulance calls were made at the company's premises in the United Kingdom over the last three years, with some even relating to pregnant women or recent mothers.

Recently, e-commerce was involved in another scandal when it was accused of destroying millions of new products that were not sold or returned to customers. The complaint was made by a French television channel that showed toys, electronics, coffee makers, diapers and other articles in full use being dismantled at an Amazon unit in the country.
