A previously released report suggests that Google will launch Fuchsia first for smart speakers and then for smartphones. And while the tech giant has denied the development of such an operating system, the alleged hiring of an Apple veteran confirms that software actually exists.
Bill Stevenson worked for Apple for 14 years; now it will join Google from February. The novelty was announced by the engineer himself in a post on his LinkedIn: "I'm happy to share that in February I'll join Google to help bring a new operating system called Fuchsia to market."
Stevenson began working at Apple in 2004 as a product launch engineer for OSX and became senior manager of engineering programs in 2008. Four years later he became senior manager for Mac and program management for Windows. He also participated in all operating system releases in this period, from Lion to Mojave.
In his curriculum there is also supervision of software such as AirPlay, Find my Mac, iCloud for Mac and AirDrop, as well as work with third parties, other application teams and also Apple hardware.
On that long road of life
According to Google itself, released in mid-2018, it will take another three years to launch the first smart speakers with Fuchsia. After that, the company will need another two years to make it available on smartphones and computers. That means there is still apparently a long way until Google actually replaces Android.
It is worth remembering that in December 2018 the company also released the first stable version of Flutter, a new coding kit for developers that allows to create applications for iOS, Android and Fuchsia. Finally, through recent tests, it has been proven that Android applications will run on the new operating system, which indicates that Google wants to make a transition as if it were a continuous process.
