Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 receives Project Treble from Android Oreo

One of the biggest criticisms (deserved) of the Android operating system is its fragmentation. We have several versions of this OS to be used currently, and in February 2018 the Android Nougat is the most popular version. So far so good, had not the Nougat been introduced in 2016 and Android Oreo, the latest version, did not even reach 1% of users. Now, two keywords. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Project Treble.

Why Project Treble is Google's attempt to correct or try to minimize all this fragmentation (so far unsuccessful). The feature was featured in Google I / O 2017 in May and has since been in limbo. This initiative consists of separating the base level of the Android system, its top layer framework, the implementation of each manufacturer.

In addition to streamlining the updates, Project Treble will be very useful for any programmer who has developed or participates in the development of a ROM. It will allow, for example, the installation of builds or generic AOSP compilations, the Treble ROM's in more devices as the international press tells us. Note also that any new smartphone that is released with Android Oreo must already support Project Treble.

The same does not happen for devices released with previous versions, not even when they are updated to the new version. However, someone managed to bring Project Treble to this Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, a mid-range device that received a very peculiar port.

The news comes to us through the community XDA Developers and the feat was made by the member  abhishek987. Relieving your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, I will not pretend to know all the technical details. He has been able to create a partition within the free space that is usually occupied by the approach of each brand to the Android system. In this case, within the space that would be dedicated to MIUI. For this, we relied on Hardware Abstraction Layers (HALs).

The Project Treble in this Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 opens a whole new window of possibilities. You could, for example, install ROM's that have not been supported by the smartphone to date, and much more. The member even made a step-by-step guide to this whole process on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Android Oreo. You can consult the guide here.
