Nokia 2 gets new security update, yet no Android Oreo

Nokia 2 smartphone has begun receiving a new system update. Unfortunately it is not yet Android Oreo 8.0 or 8.1 but we know that eventually this update will also reach the more modest Nokias. Now, for the TA-1011 model, a major security update has arrived.

The first country to receive the news was India, and is now the  February security patch en route to all Nokia 2 from HMD Global . Once again the Finnish brand is extremely quick to make updates available for their devices. Even for the most economical!

This same update is also coming to Nokia 8. This yes, already uses Android version Oreo of the operating system of Google with the North American to make the update available for Pixel and Nexus. In the meantime we have also seen this same update coming to the Nokia 6 and 3. This is an important update, will enhance the security of the entire device.

As it still does not have Android Oreo, this update weighs very little and can be downloaded even via LTE (data connection). The firmware package (system software) weighs 89.3MB and will be available via OTA ( over the air ). You can check the availability manually in Settings - About your smartphone - Software updates.

Nokia 2 continues without Android Oreo

Now with the February update for Nokia 2, we have here corrected a serious bug for the security of the device. This is a vulnerability related to the  Media framework of the smartphone itself. According to the latest security bulletin from Google, through this security hole a hacker could run code in a file specially designed to run on the targeted smartphone.

The new Google security patch fixes several security vulnerabilities. Including security fixes for Qualcomm components. Although this update by itself does not change the visual aspect of the system, HMD Global is already working on a direct upgrade to Android Oreo 8.1.

The device will jump directly from Nougat 7.2 to Android Oreo 8.1, the measure has already been confirmed by Mr. Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer of HMD Global.
