OnePlus 5 users had been impatiently waiting for a stable Android Oreo gift this new year but it seems there has been a temporary setback to the update. The OnePlus 5 beta Oreo kicked off some weeks back, in December, and it was hoped that a stable build would be a 2018 present from OnePlus. The company did deliver the OTA, although it turns out there were some big bugs enough to warrant a pull-down. Below is the forum statement.
“Because of a bug on Oxygen 5.0, we have canceled its global release. And we’re preparing for Oxygen 5.0.1, the partial release will go alive soon”.
Thus, the OnePlus forums have been updated with the message that the stable Android Oreo build has been withheld due to a bug. There’s no mention of the type of bug that is the culprit here. But we presume it might be the same problem faced by the OnePlu 3/3T.
Not long ago, the OnePlus 3/3T stable Oreo update had to be pulled back due to bugs. Users reported battery drains and stability issues on their units after the OTA.
Considering the OnePlus 5 also carries a similar build, the same bugs might have come back to haunt OnePlus.
As of now, the forums message doesn’t mention any date for the new Oxygen OS 5.0.1 OTA. However, we expect the company to hasten the process so as to avoid user fury.
