ASUS ROG laptops go big with high-end hardware, eSports tie-ins

The ASUS Republic of Gamers already introduced a gaming tower in the Strix GL 12 today, but if your preference is for gaming laptops, it has you covered there too. Today it introduced two new gaming laptops that will launch under the ASUS ROG branding. The first ties in with the League of Legends pro scene and is made with MOBA players in mind, while the second is packed to the brim with high-end hardware.

We begin with the ASUS ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition. The name of the laptop should be instantly familiar for anyone who follows the League of Legends professional scene, as it references the team SK Telecom T1. The laptop itself features the logos for both SKT T1 and ASUS ROG, while the signature of League player Faker is featured on the keyboard’s palm rest. The limited edition laptop will be offered in a bundle that features an SKT T1 jersey, mouse pad, and posters featuring both SKT and Faker.

The Strix SKT T1 Hero isn’t a slouch on the inside, though being aimed at MOBA enthusiasts, it doesn’t necessarily have the best of the best in terms of hardware. You’ll find an Intel Core i7 paired with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, along with a 120Hz IPS display that boasts 100% sRGB color gamut. As you’d expect, the keyboard is made with MOBA players in mind, with the QWER keys getting special flair and the keyboard itself offering N-key rollover for quick cooldown rotations.

Next, we come to the ROG G702. This one doesn’t have any special eSports tie-ins but is rather just a gaming laptop packed with a lot of high-end equipment. ASUS ROG says this is the world’s first gaming laptop to feature a 17.3-inch 1080p display outfitted with NVIDIA G-Sync technology, providing it a 144Hz refresh rate.

The G702 is equipped with an overclocked Intel Core i7-7820HK and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, so any way you slice it, this is a pretty powerful gaming laptop. Of course, you’re going to need to plop down some serious cash to take this one home, as it’s an available now with a starting price of $3499. Meanwhile, the ROG Strix SKT T1 Hero Edition will be available sometime within the first quarter of the year with pricing announced at launch.
