What to expect from the September Apple conference

Until the big presentation of Apple on Tuesday there are only a few days, and the number of assumptions about what devices the company will present grows every day. Below is listed everything that should be expected from the Apple conference on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater.

New iPhone models

This is the most simple guess, since Apple always releases new phone models in September, not including a few exceptions. This year will be presented iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus with LCD-displays and updated content, but most all are waiting for the tenth anniversary iPhone (the first was released in 2007).

Here are the main features of iPhone 8:

• New design - iPhone 8 will have a frameless display, and there will not be a physical "Home" button, the back of the case will be made of glass to provide wireless charging and avoid overheating.


• OLED- display - On the screen of the new model, black will be more saturated, the colours will become even more contrast, the number of pixels will increase. The display of the iPhone 8 will not only look better but also consume less energy. Also, the phone should have a True Tone and ProMotion technology with a refresh rate of 120Hz.


• Inductive charging - You should not expect a wireless charging (this technology has not been invented yet), but the phone will support inductive charging. You can charge your iPhone with any suitable Qi charging mat. The inductive charging time will be twice as long as usual for safety reasons.


• Lack of Touch ID - Apple did not manage to integrate a fingerprint sensor into the display, and the company refused to add a Touch ID to the back panel. The technology of Touch ID will be replaced by face recognition and a conventional password.


• 3 D -Sensors - Both cameras will have depth sensors that work in infrared light, invisible to the human eye. They will be able to scan objects even in total darkness. The sensors will be used to recognize the face when unlocking, using Apple Pay, for 3D-self, augmented reality and other.


• Processor A 11 - We can ensure that the new iPhone will run on a faster and more powerful Apple processor. Because of the dual main camera in the phone, there should be at least 3GB of RAM as on the iPhone 7 Plus.


• Advanced cameras - The front camera can add shooting video to 4K at a rate of 60 frames per second, as well as improve its resolution. The main cameras should remain 12 megapixels, but they will have superfast autofocus (working on a new 3D-sensor), optical image stabilisation and several other updates. The main camera can also shoot 4K-video with a double frame rate.


• Memory - Apple should increase the available options to 64GB / 256GB / 512GB of memory. 512GB of memory on the phone - this is too much, but 64GB on the basic version of the average user should be enough.


• New name - It is not clear yet whether Apple will name the new model as usual, or give it a name, like iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPhone Edition, etc. If the phone is not called iPhone 8, then this name can get iPhone 7s / Plus.


• High price - The most expensive version of the iPhone 7 Plus costs almost 1,000 dollars, and for the OLED-iPhone line, this price will be the starting price. If you want more memory, you will have to pay 100 dollars for each option.

In addition to all the above functions, Apple may surprise us with another one, which no one expected.

Apple Watch Series 3

In appearance, the new Apple Watch will not be very different from the watches of series 1 or 2, and they will not be thinner either. The reason is that Apple will add LTE support to them; The company will accommodate even more chips in the already small chassis. The mechanism of connecting the straps, too, will not change.

First, Apple Watch 3 series may not support calls over cellular, but later the function is activated with the software update. In addition to cellular communication, the watch will receive improved dust and water resistance, a new S3 processor, an updated display and possibly several new colour options.

What not to expect from the new Apple Watch: FaceTime cameras.

Apple TV with 4K

Apple TV of the fourth generation was released two years ago, and we all were waiting for updates.

The most important change is video support in 4K, as well as HDR, HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

The video in HDR will be more contrast and saturated; the details will be better than in the standard HD resolution (1080p). Apple is catching up with its competitors - Chromecast from Google already supports 4K-video.

The upgrade of tvOS 11 software will contain only a few minor improvements, but at the World Conference of Developers Tim Cook hinted that "later this year you will learn much more about Apple TV." It is unclear what exactly he meant, but we hope that Apple has saved a few aces in the sleeve.

Date of release updates software

Usually at conferences, the company announces the release date of software updates. The release of iOS 11, macOS High Sierra, watchOS 4 and tvOS 11 is expected "this fall".

Usually, the iOS update comes out earlier than the new iPhone models, and this year should not be an exception.

This does not mean that all software updates will come out at the same time. iOS 11 and watchOS 4 should go out on the same day (because of Apple Watch syncs with the iPhone), but tvOS 11 and macOS High Sierra can come out later, especially if there is another conference in October dedicated to the new Apple TV and possibly new Mac models (e.g., Mac mini).
