Some few month back, I wrote an article on how to can stop Whatsapp from sharing your data with Facebook. Some Watchdogs were worried as this could infringe on users privacy as few countries are not buying the sharing data idea at all, India took WhatsApp and Facebook to a provincial High Court to Halted the data sharing in India. Same in the UK too they have ban Whatsapp from sharing users data with Facebook. In the same vain the Information Commissioner Office has asked that the sharing of data be paused until privacy breach investigations are complete.
Elizabeth Denham, The UK Information Commissioner said:
I had concerns that consumers weren’t being properly protected, and it’s fair to say the enquiries my team have made haven’t changed that view. I don’t think users have been given enough information about what Facebook plans to do with their information, and I don’t think WhatsApp has got valid consent from users to share the information. I also believe users should be given ongoing control over how their information is used, not just a 30 day window.
In Germany too they have to ask WhatsApp to stop sharing users data with Facebook and rumors that France and Italy may follow suit.
WhatsApp did update its privacy policy some months ago, and I believe many have agreed to the term without knowing the valuable user data they have given up.
