Android users are keenly waiting for the Android M operating system
that will be released later this year, but CyanogenMod is also preparing
for its CM 12.1. The development of CM 11 and CM 12 are also being
finalized.
On Thursday, June 25, the CyanogenMod team revealed that the final
snapshot releases of both 11.0 and 12.0 were going live on June 25
night. Snapshots are considered the stable CyanogenMod release, even
more stable than the "M" builds that are released on a monthly basis,
which are also very reliable.
The development team is still giving attention to CM 11 because many
people who were using Android 4.4 KitKat did not want to move on to the
CM 12, which is based on the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.
"The meager stats that we have show that there is a rather large
contingency of users who are sticking to CM11 as their release channel
of choice, so we felt compelled to give a release showcasing all the
work that went into that branch to make it ship ready," stated CyanogenMod on its official blog.
Many people have expressed their preference of CM 11 to CM 12, which
may have prompted the CyanogenMod team to make developments to CM 11.
"I have moved to CM12.1, but it drains battery as hell, now I am back
to CM11. It is stable and is twice better regarding battery. The ART is
disappointment to me, it does not bring any advantage," shared a user
on the CyanogenMod blog.
The development team at CyanogenMod also revealed that they are
already preparing CM 12.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The nightly
builds of CM 12.1 are also available for some select devices if people
want to download them.
As the development for CM 12.1 has also started, CM 11 as well as CM
12 weeklies and nightlies will soon close. The development team at
CyanogenMod will also start building a version for the upcoming Android M
mobile operating system, which is expected to make a debut in the next
Nexus handset.
Despite giving attention to new software, the CyanogenMod team has
continuously worked on developments supporting the devices running on
existing software. Recently, the CyanogenMod team also rolled out
updates that fixed several issues such as touchscreen problems, MMS
issues and Bluetooth faults in the OnePlus One handset.
