Nokia Z Launcher For Android

Nokia's entering the Android space with its Z Launcher software. Let's take at how it works aboard the LG G3

With Windows Phone and its catalog of Lumia handsets firmly in Microsoft’s own stable, Nokia’s occupying itself with other projects, and one such project for Google’s Android OS has now landed on the Google Play store; a launcher interface application dubbed Z Launcher.

The Z Launcher is quite different from any other we’ve seen so far. It features a fairly simple and minimalist looking interface complete with an app drawer icon at the bottom and space to add your own favorite shortcuts. The rest of the interface consists of a single home screen page with a scrollable two-page widget at the top, a prompt for Calendar notifications, and a list of applications, contacts, and actions in the middle.

Z Launcher has a few tricks up its sleeve but all ultimately roll into one cohesive approach, that is: presenting you with the shortcuts you use most often when you need them. Part of this involves monitoring your app usage, calls, messaging, texts and so forth, and (importantly) when it all happens the software actually learns over time and figures out. when you’re likely to use a particular app, call a special person, or send a message based on your use habits, and once it’s done this it’ll present it in your list at the right time of day. Z Launcher divides the day up into Morning, Afternoon, and Evening segments and adjusts the app list within these timeframes.
